NearPod - interactive delivery and assessment tool.
You can use the app or website for this tool. Google Forms - create quizzes, surveys and polls quickly. |
Classroom Response Systems
Classroom Response Systems, also called "clickers" allow students to enter answers to questions via a hand-held device. This allows the teacher to have instant answers and automatically grade student work. PlayPosIt - embed assessments into your videos. This is typically used in a flipped or blended classroom. This is a sample quiz. EdPuzzle - similar to PlayPosit...you can use any YouTube video or upload your own, then add your assessment questions throughout the video. Socrative - instantly see results from assessments. Can use any device as a student response system. Use this as a teacher-led or student-paced assessment. You can also create exit tickets. Kahoot! - game based assessment that engages students. Not all teachers like this tool as it can be confusing and the options are limited. Learn how Kahoot works here. Quizizz - Create fun pop-quizzes, reviews or individual classwork. Players progress at their own pace. Here is a good tutorial for teachers. Quizlet - Quizlet is all about making simple learning tools that students will love. You can create custom study sets for your classes, or find existing materials other teachers have already put together. It's up to you! Quizlet Live is one of the best features in assessment I have seen. Formative - students can type, draw, or submit images...check for understanding with this quick tool. Gimkit - gamify your teaching with this versatile tool. The bonus is you can use it as an assessment too! You can search for pre-made kits or start from scratch. You can add classes and monitor progress while your students are having fun "playing." If you use Quzizz, Gimkit is like that but with power-ups! The con is there is no free version. You can get a 100 day trial, but if you like it, pay for it. InsertLearning - this is a whole new way to teach and assess your students. This tool was created by a couple of teachers and focuses on critical reading skills. I love the interactive features you can add to any website. Take a look at this review to learn more. Student ReflectionsThere are a lot of tools that allow students to reflect on their learning.
However you learn best — visually, auditory, or kinesthetically — you’ll reap the most rewards by spending time reflecting on your experiences, according to new research published by the Harvard Business School. FlipGrid - You post a question, provide a link (classroom, bit.ly, whatever works for you) and students get to provide their feedback (answer) via a video. They click on the link, add an idea, take their picture, and record. The con of this tool is it has emojis the students can stick onto their picture once their video is done. Think those SnapChat stickers!
